About 2nd London Baptist (1689)
The Second London Baptist Confession of 1689 (also known as the 1689 Baptist Confession of Faith) is a Reformed Baptist confession of faith. It was written by Particular Baptists in England to give a formal expression of their Reformed and Protestant Christian faith.
Churches that hold to the 1689 Confession are characterized by:
- Reformed theology (Calvinism)
- Believer's baptism
- Local church autonomy
- Elder-led church government
- Commitment to biblical authority and sufficiency
- Historic confessional standards
The 1689 Confession is based on the Westminster Confession of Faith (1646) and the Savoy Declaration (1658), adapted for Baptist ecclesiology. It remains a foundational document for many Reformed Baptist churches today.
