The Living Room San Antonio
About
In early 2021, we chose to symbolically call our church “The Living Room”. Primarily, it is to represent how we, individually, and as a corporate body of believers, are the dwelling place of the Holy Spirit. For the believer, this reality has wonderful implications on how we are to live in this life. Secondarily, we intentionally began gathering in a living room as a “House Church”. As we transitioned to a building, we continued to keep a living room layout, while continuing to meet in homes on various Sundays. This was done with the hope of removing naturally occurring barriers that can hinder any gathering. These barriers occur unintentionally through a lack of interpersonal relationships but can also be self-inflicted. When we build our churches, the architecture, and the shape can communicate much that we don’t intend. The living room setting, although not perfect, is our effort as a community of believers to discourage passivity in fellowship (not knowing who you labor with) and growth via the Scriptures. The church is not a vendor of religious goods and services. Becoming more like Jesus, requires the believer to be active and directly involved in the journey of discipleship. We joke about being a “hybrid”. Not completely a “House Church”, and not completely a “Brick- and-mortar” assembly. It was C. S. Lewis who observed: “...there exists in every church something that sooner or later works against the very purpose for which it came into existence. So, we must strive very hard, by the grace of God to keep the church focused on the mission that Christ originally gave to it.” By God’s Grace, this is our attempt.
