The Commons LA
About
In ages past, 'the commons' was a name given to a shared space in a city or university where people could gather, cultivate relationships, share their burdens, and celebrate together. At the center of 'the commons' was a vision for the flourishing of the community where all people would benefit. As a church, the name ‘The Commons LA’ (TCLA) embodies our hope to seek the flourishing of our city for all people through the gospel. Yet TCLA isn't about a shared space bound by walls, but forming a shared community centered on the living and active person of Jesus. It’s Jesus Himself who unites us, sustains us, leads us, transforms us, and works through us. We trust His real presence as the only One who can rebuild broken people together, make them whole, and compel them to live for more than themselves: “The love of Christ controls us… that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for Him who for their sake died and was raised.” 2 Corinthians 5:14-15 By living together centered on Jesus, The Commons LA is formed by the ancient pattern of drawing near to God to be filled in his presence, to be transformed through Jesus’ teaching as the true way to be human, then to be sent out in His power to live for the good of Los Angeles, the saving of the lost, and by God’s grace to start new churches in urban university regions around the globe.
