Hillsboro Baptist Church
About
Greetings IX Marks team! My name is Jimmy D. Temple, and I have the privilege of serving as the lead pastor of Hillsboro Baptist Church. I got my MDiv from SEBTS, and I'm currently working on a ThM from Gordon-Conwell. I've been to the 2016 and 2018 T4G conferences, I've visited Capitol Hill Baptist Church once on a Sunday (met Mark there), and I've got the all the "Building Healthy Churches" books on my shelf and am currently reading through them. The church description is included at the end, but I wanted to write to you about the "Consent" check at the bottom of this application, for the sake of transparency. I personally am in full agreement with each of the IX Marks and the T4G's Affirmations and Denials. The only "exception," if you'd consider it one, is regarding the leadership component. To be clear, I personally believe and affirm in the biblical notion of having a plurality of elders, but Hillsboro is not currently structured or set up with a plurality of elders. The church was founded in 1839, and since its inception has operated under the typical arrangement of one senior pastor. Keep in mind, the average attendance of the church has been stable, around 50 people, throughout the church's history. Having said all that, one of my desires/plans/aims as the pastor is to lead the church towards having a plurality of elders, but from wisdom I've garnered from many, I know that is a work I'm striving for over the long haul. I began pastoring in March of 2020, and slowly but surely I hope to lead Hillsboro to become healthier and biblical in all realms of our local existence and structure, leadership being one of them. I'm thankful to have seen fruit thus far and believe we are on the right trajectory, by God's grace. So, if you'd be willing, I'd love to have Hillsboro be listed on the 9Marks church search page, so that those who are looking for a healthy church in Crozet (or at the minimum, a church that is actively striving to be healthy) may be able to find one and may join us in our continual effort to glorify Jesus in every realm of this local church's existence. I'm happy to chat more about this if there's a need/desire on y'all's end. Description: Hillsboro Baptist Church was founded in 1839 and continues to exist for the sake of making disciples of Jesus for the glory of the Triune God. We do this by knowing God's Word, showing God's love, and growing God's kingdom, all for the glory of Christ.
