Evanston Baptist Church

Evanston Baptist Church started under leadership of Dr. Mark Coppenger and his wife Sharon. Our first service was held on September 10, 2000. We began meeting at the YWCA on Ridge Avenue in Evanston. Since EBC was without its own baptistry, Rev. Norwood and the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, located just blocks away, graciously allowed us to share theirs. Beginning Sunday, February 5, 2006, Evanston Baptist Church moved our Sunday services to the historic Fountain Square Building, located at 1601 Sherman Avenue in Downtown Evanston. That's where you can still meet us on Sundays. In 2011, Dr. Coppenger and Sharon left Evanston so that Dr. Coppenger could serve as a Vice President at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. A pastor search team was formed and Pastor Phil Miglioratti served as an Interim Pastor until a candidate for the next Pastor could be identified. On May 6, 2012, the members of Evanston Baptist Church voted to affirm God's calling of Scott Kelly to serve as EBC's pastor. The Kelly family then moved to Evanston in early August of 2012. Scott was officially installed as pastor on September 16, 2012 during a special worship service with both Dr. Coppenger and Pastor Miglioratti in attendance.
