Christ the Redeemer Church

Christ the Redeemer Church was founded in December 2003 and is Bible-based, family-friendly, and self-consciously in the Reformed tradition. There are over a dozen family units, including singles, large families, and small families, homeschoolers and Christian schoolers, professionals, soldiers, students, Dutch Reformed, Presbyterian, Reformed Baptist, and more. A strong component of our fellowship is unity in the Bible despite our diversity of cultural backgrounds. Weekly worship services are held on Sunday mornings at 10:00 at 9050 Hwy. 24 East, Manhattan, KS 66502 (Our church building shares the driveway of the Valley View Cemetery). Worship is age-inclusive, following a Covenant Renewal pattern of congregational response to God’s word in praise, confession of sin, instruction, and communion. Music is purposefully chosen from a variety of styles including Bible passages put to music, hymns with pithy theology, and songs or hymns with repeated choruses that little children can join in singing. We seek to balance both joy and reverence in the presence of the Lord, and some of the singing is a capella, some with piano, some with orchestral accompaniment, and some with guitar accompaniment. Sermons are expositions of Bible passages and last about 40 minutes. We have regular men’s and women’s meetings, monthly fellowship dinners, and weekday home Bible studies. One of the elders serves as a full-time pastor. Pastoral care focuses on equipping heads of households to lead their households in daily worship, discipleship, and outreach according to the unique giftings of each household. A plurality of elders governs the congregation with input from the heads of households, and the elders maintain relationships with about two dozen other Bible-believing evangelical churches in Manhattan.
